UNFAVORABLE PUBLICITY

Being in the public eye can sometimes result in unfavorable press. Designate in advance only one spokesperson for the club. Should the club come under scrutiny, the best advice is to deal with the media honestly, directly and quickly. Never attempt to have a story suppressed, and do not avoid specific media questions. Never say "no comment." Dealing openly with the media ensures Sertoma's story is presented and that the story is balanced. If properly handled, an unfavorable incident may be turned into a positive if the facts have been provided.
